Blaze 88:
I am for hermit crabs all the way, but so many other animals are "throw away" pets too. Goldfish, geckos, iguanas, tree frogs, turtles, pond frogs, tranchulas, guenie pigs, baby ducks, baby chickens, rabbits, and the list goes on. People sell and buy these pets like the will live for a month, when all of these animals should live to be at least five and most twenty. Yes, hermit crabs seem to have it the worst of all, (sigh) but goldfish are sold that way too. 11 million cats and dogs die from being unwanted, but six times as many "throw away" animals die from being wanted. As a good freind of mine once said, "It's Disney's and other cartoon's fault. 'Look at the happy goldfish in a bowl, mine will be just like it.'" Yes, I know this is a hermit crab site, but you can't just look at one species as in need. Face it, people don't do reserch about the animals they buy, heck, when I first got crabs, and a betta I sure didn't. Word needs to get about ALL "trash" animals that they sould live alot longer. Crab sales season is arround May to Augest, depending on the climate you live in. Goldfish are sold year roung and "easter animals" in April. PEOPLE DON'T DO REASURCH FOR SEASONAL IMPULSE ANIMALS! Erg, sorry it makes me so mad.
Well since people don't do reasurch, they must be told in other non-internet forms about what they are doing wrong. Most people who buy small "trash" animals, most likely have a cat or dog, or their faimly has a cat or dog, therefore hopefully they go to the vet's every so often.
If info sheets of the month be made, each month focusing on the animal that is impulsivly bought the most that month then people would read them and think twice about buying another hermit crab to live in a plastic tank as if holding until death. The sheets would have a care sheet of the featured animal atached to it as well as a small section of other animals that are also "throw" away. There should be true stories included about the animal featured that month, that tell people why they are not impulse items to buy. The sheet should have contact information to get other sheets of other animals, as well as a list of what month corosponds to each animal. The featured animal sheet should have site adresses to direct people to more information about the animal, if they still want to buy one and keep it as a pet. These info packets should then be given away in large amounts for free to vet offices for people to read and/or keep for future refrance. They could alot be distrubited to non-chain pet stores if the manager says it's ok. If the manager doesn't agree, they could be told that this will increase sales of large cages, and other care merchandice. Rather than sombody buying a fish, a bowl and food, they would buy alot more.
Please tell me what you think on the idea. If you want to write info and articles, go ahead and email them to me at blaze88@gmail.com. Please any ideas help so poast them. When/if this is all finished I will email a copy of each month to whoever wants it and they would be very nice people to distribute it to vets and stores.

If anybody wants a sheet, just PM me with your email or email me saying you want a sheet. If I don't get help writing them, it may be up to a year before I finish. So PLEASE email me articles about any animal. I will be poasting what animla will get each month soon.
