PPS stands for Post-Purchase stress. It is the stress that hermit crabs get from when they are in a pet store in crappy conditions, then suddenly have great conditions in your tank, so they get all confused and stressed so much, it is obvious.
Some stuff you can do to prevent PPS:

Let your new crabs adjust in the ISO before letting them in the main tank. Let them adjust a week or so.
Educate pet stores on how important conditions are.
